Three children jumped into the arms of neighbors and another was pulled unconscious through a second-story window after a fire swept through a unit at Postbrook East Apartments Sunday night.
The four kids were taken to Riley Children's Hospital, where one was in critical condition, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department. The other three children were in good condition. Their ages have not been released.
Firefighters were dispatched at 6:47 p.m. to the apartment in the 4000 block of Windhill Drive. Fifteen IFD units were on scene, as well as three units from Lawrence.
IFD said a teenager, who was inside when the fire started, told firefighters his mother had been cooking on the stove but left the apartment. The teen had been asleep upstairs.
