The Indian Navy is not exactly new—it can trace its origins back to the Royal Indian Navy, which was founded in 1612 as a branch of the Honourable East India Company. It wasn’t until 1830 however that the colonial navy was re-designated His Majesty’s Indian Navy, and a century later in 1934, it became the Royal Indian Navy.
