India's LNG imports spike 45% in April
India's LNG imports in April came in at 2.66bn m³ of pipeline equivalent (about 2mn metric tons), the Indian oil and gas ministry's Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) website showed May 20. This was up 45.2% year/year although the cost almost tripled. Imports were down 10.43% month/month.
The sharp spike in April was due to the lower base in April 2020 when India was under a full lockdown to stop the spread of COVID-19. During the 12 months to March 31 (FY 2020-2021), imports were 32.85bn m³ of pipeline equivalent (about 24mn mt), down 3% yr/yr.
