Incumbent tribal council candidates all kept their seats in this year’s Keweenaw Bay Indian Community general election, according to unofficial results from Saturday’s vote.
Randall Haataja and Toni Minton ran unopposed for their seats representing the L’Anse district, and received 255 and 266 votes, respectively.
Doreen Blaker kept her seat with 270 votes, and R.D. Curtis Jr. accrued 174, enough to keep his seat. Their challengers for the Baraga district seats were Larry Denomie III, who got 99 votes, and Sue Ellen Elmblad, who got 160.
The results remain unofficial until approved by the council, and the winning candidates will be re-sworn in January, according to the KBIC Election Board chairperson, Dianne Waara.
