Imani Perry wins 2022 National Book Award for nonfiction

In “South to America: A Journey Below the Mason-Dixon to Understand the Soul of a Nation,” Imani Perry travels to the American South, where she is from, to examine race, culture, politics and identity. The awards night was one of celebration, but concerns about a wave of book challenges and bans across the country hung over the festivities.
