"We have 319 recoveries (acute gastroenteritis), 55 cases admitted, 41 cases stayed at home and 10 deaths as of today. We have an additional death, which is a seven-month old from Gustilo, La Paz," said CESU medical coordinator, Dr. Marigold Calsas in a press conference. Of the total cases, 12 have been identified as cholera with three of the patients still in hospitals. Two of the four latest confirmed cholera cases in Iloilo City were from Barangay Tanza Esperanza and one each from North Baluarte and Bolilao. The four were among the six cases who tested positive for cholera as per results released by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine Tuesday evening, Calsas said. Meantime, Iloilo Provincial Health Officer Dr. Maria Socorro Quinon on Tuesday afternoon said they are also investigating the 13 cases of suspected acute gastroenteritis in the province. The cases were from the municipalities of Pavia, Pototan, San Joaquin, Dingle, Oton, and Leganes. Quinon warned that cholera, a common cause of gastroenteritis, is fatal and may result in death within two to three hours when left untreated. She advised the public to immediately seek medical help when members of their family are suffering from loose bowel movement five to six times a day for emergency treatment. (PNA) }
