Residents of the Belize River Valley are complaining that over the past few weeks, a number of illegal logging operations have been taking place in the area without proper supervision from the forestry department. A caller on Wave Radio’s ‘Fus Ting Dah Mawning’ pointed out to the hosts that a number of trucks have been hauling lumber out of the area. The caller stated that the operations are being conducted by Mennonites who are often moving into private lands and extracting lumber which is often undersized. She noted that the logs being taken out are not marked by the Forestry Department as being approved by them and added that numerous calls to police stations in the area have been futile to prevent the illegal extraction from continuing.
