At 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 19, the Humble City Council met to accept the runoff election counts as they were read according to the Dec. 12 Official Tabulation posted at www.cityofhumble.com.
City Secretary Jenny Page read the counts to the board and all attendees with both runoff candidates present.“According to the official voting results posted to the City of Humble website, the final results showed a one-point difference between the remaining candidates. Arliss Ann Bentley received 145 absentee votes, 108 early votes and 47 Election Day votes. The total vote count for Arliss is 300 total votes,” said Page. “Paula Settle received 131 absentee votes, 106 early voting votes, and 64 Election Day results, giving her a total of 301 votes.” Humble City Mayor Merle Aaron added, “During the time which I have been here, which has been since 2005, I have never seen a vote or candidate race be this close. Both candidates here in attendance today worked very hard with a high degree of integrity and honor. We truly appreciate the characters of these individuals.”The board members unanimously decided to accept the results as read. Each candidate has the opportunity to order a recount by precinct at their own expense. The final accepted numbers were counted Monday and included Election Day, early voting results, overseas votes, military representation and any provisional ballots as well.To round out the special meeting, the board voted and approved Resolution 20-828 to extend the Temporary COVID-19 Critical Essential Employee Leave Policy to match or exceed the federal policy for essential employees. To close the meeting, Aaron remarked, “Normally, Councilmember David Pierce would end the meeting with community announcements. However, his wife is in need of our prayers at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and the Pierce family.”Information on future meetings or any special announcements can be found on the Humble City website.
