HS2 is trying to determine the level of potential shortfalls in skilled workers required for the project, according to the minister charged with overseeing it.
Responding to a written parliamentary question tabled by Labour MP for West Ham Lyn Brown, HS2 minister Andrew Stephenson said that HS2 Ltd and the Department for Transport were planning to “identify mitigations and ensure it addresses the challenges facing both the transport industry and the wider economy”.
Stephenson added that HS2 Ltd has developed a skills, employment and education strategy driven by forecasting data, which will provide “an assessment of potential mismatches between HS2 labour and skills requirements and their availability”.
