Suburban Minneapolis police officer Kim Potter, a 26-year veteran of the police department, who authorities say mistakenly shot Daunte Wright with her firearm instead of her Taser, has resigned. Although rare, a string of similar incidents has happened in recent years across the U.S.
Then Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon said on Monday â he has since resigned â that the officerâs immediate distress showed her use of the gun was unintentional.
âAs you can hear, the officer, while struggling with Mr. Wright yells âTaser! Taser!â several times. That is part of the officerâs training prior to deploying a Taser, which is a less lethal device,â he said.
