Evelyn Malicay was paddling her own canoe one night in the waters near her home on a remote Philippines coast when she saw a light flicker on a boat nearby.
As the 54-year-old went over to investigate, a spear fisherman in the boat fired at her, only narrowly missing.
That brush with death was merely the closest call that Malicay has faced in recent years.
