How Joe Biden can lead on health
The United States hit a sad milestone as it passed 300,000 coronavirus deaths this week. However, the country also received some of the most hopeful news since the pandemic started when the first vaccines were administered. With two effective coronavirus vaccines now allowed for clinical use, the end of the pandemic seems to be in sight.
Yet there remains more work to be done over the next several months to assist patients and save lives, and the administration of Joe Biden enters office with a mandate to pursue reforms to health care to that end. While some of his proposals, such as a public option and a lower eligibility age of Medicare, do not stand a realistic chance in the divided Congress, his administration can start with several other important fixes.
