A CABLE car was thrown 500m down an Italian mountain killing 14 people when a cable snapped and brakes failed.
The catastrophic sequence events lasted around 30 seconds and began as the car neared the summit and resulted in it plummeting towards a pylon, then flying into the air before it smashed into the ground.

Among the dead are a family of five and several couples who had come to enjoy the spectacular views by the beautiful Lake Maggiore.
