If you think the City Council has been unusually obstreperous during Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s first two years, you’re right.
According to a new report by longtime council watcher Dick Simpson and colleagues, the council is no longer the almost totally tamed body it was when Simpson served as 44th Ward alderman during the tenures of Richard J. Daley and Michael Bilandic.

Simpson—a political science professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago who served on Lightfoot’s transition team—generally applauds that development. But it certainly has given Lightfoot a few gray hairs.
