After Defense Department employees moved to remote work in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the DOD faced a sharp spike in cyberattacks against its networks. To fight back, the Defense Information Systems Agency responded by ramping up its Cloud-Based Internet Isolation solution.
With CBII, users’ internet browsing sessions are transferred from traditional desktop browsers to a secure, isolated cloud-platform, isolating potential malicious code and content and separating the threat from direct connections to DOD networks, according to a DISA fact sheet. Essentially, it reduces endpoint attacks and bandwidth demands at the same time.
“CBII has been that solution that enables mission partners to solve their bandwidth constraints, especially in response to mass telework due to COVID-19,” Laurel Lashley, DISA’s CBII program manager, said. “For mission partners who are operating in low-bandwidth, high-latency environments, CBII has been the solution for them to conserve bandwidth for their mission-essential functions.”
