On Mill Bay Road stands a building that, years ago, housed Kodiakâs Pizza Hut franchise. The old walk-in freezer â where produce, cheese and other food ingredients were once stored â is now empty except for several boxes of documents on a metal shelving unit. Â
The building that once served Kodiakans piping-hot pizza is now home to a small team of Kodiak Island Housing Authority staff tasked with distributing $5.8 million in emergency rental assistance funding.Â
The housing authority is the tribal-designated housing entity in Kodiak. Its programs offer a variety of affordable rental units around the island. While many of their services are aimed at Alaska Natives or American Indian residents, their most recent emergency rental assistance program is geared toward the general population of Kodiak.Â
