WASHINGTON (CN) — Though it was not unanimous due to Republican objections, the House of Representatives on Wednesday voted 415-14 to pass a resolution that creates a federal holiday for Juneteenth, the celebration of the end of slavery in the United States.
A resolution designating June 19 as a federally recognized holiday — only the 11
th of its kind — passed unanimously in the Senate on Tuesday afternoon and quickly vaulted through the House after lengthy debate. Its next stop will be the White House, where President Joe Biden is expected to sign it into law.
