Hospital manager 'a champion for the powerless'

Linda Morales Armas accomplished a lot in her life, but she never boasted about it.
She was an administrator in hospitals and clinics around New Mexico who worked to empower women and amplify Latino voices. Morales Armas died Dec. 19 at the age of 74 after a four-year battle with dementia.

“Her passing diminishes the world…,” her husband, Jose Armas, told the Journal. “I think Linda was an unsung hero in New Mexico. She was a champion for the powerless, and I believe Linda was a New Mexico treasure.”
Morales Armas had a long career working as an administrator at hospitals and clinics in Albuquerque and Española, but she also worked to help Latino authors by co-founding a publishing house and a monthly magazine that highlighted works by Latino writers and poets.
