Mehdi El-Hajj Hassan lived his short life knowing the pain of gun violence. He was just four years old when his father was gunned down in a drug underworld revenge killing. On Saturday morning, El-Hajj Hassan, 20, was shot dead, too.
Police believe El-Hajj Hassan was driving in the city’s south end around 3 a.m. Saturday when he was shot by an unknown assailant through the driver’s side window. El-Hajj Hassan was shot in the chest and police believe he crossed a median before crashing into another car and a fence near a McDonald’s restaurant at Hunt Club Road and Lorry Greenberg Drive. Multiple 911 emergency calls reported the collisions first. Police and paramedics discovered the fatal gunshot wound once they arrived.
