To offer similar points of comparison as in November, the risk of contracting the disease in Chicago was 28% Thursday; in Detroit, it's 21%; in Dallas, it's 26%; in Philadelphia, it's 28%; in Los Angeles, it's 43%; and in Atlanta, just 21%.
With the exception of Chicago, all of those out-of-state numbers are higher than they were in November.
Another recent tool from the University of Minnesota has been tracking how full hospitals across the country have been during the pandemic.
This tool uses weekly information from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Protect to show what percentage of all hospital beds in a county are occupied by COVID-19 patients. Where possible, it also reports the number of ICU beds occupied by COVID-19 patients.
