Himanta Biswa Sarma to be next Assam chief minister | India News

Himanta Biswa Sarma joined the BJP ahead of the 2014 assembly elections after over a decade in Congress. He held several key portfolios in the Sonowal-led outgoing government.
NEW DELHI: Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to be the next chief minister of Assam pipping Sarbananda Sonowal to the post. The swearing-in ceremony will be held on Monday.
The announcement came after the newly-elected legislative members of the assembly ratified the decision during a meeting at the Library Auditorium in Guwahati today.
BJP leaders BL Santosh, Baijayant Jay Panda and Ajay Jamwal were also present at the Assam Legislative Assembly for the BJP Legislative Party meet where Himanta's claim over the top post was upheld by the MLAs.
