I have come to the conclusion that people talk like how they hear things. And for the most part, it's generally incorrect. And I also think that it mostly comes from people not reading enough. So your only point of reference is how you are hearing the word or phrase.

One of my biggest pet peeves (and I see this a lot) is when people write "we should OF done... ". It's "we should HAVE done... (whatever it is)". But I will give you that, it does sound like "should of" instead of "should have". Especially if it's a contraction. Then, when you add in the possibility of voice to text, it probably gets worse.
