A GOOD Friday tradition, the fish and chip shops across the country are usually rammed full of people wanting to get their Easter chippy tea.
The origin behind the tradition is that, according to Christianity, Jesus was executed on Good Friday and died for our sins, so the church encourages followers to abstain from eating meaty flesh on the anniversary of Christ's death.
Instead of meat, fish is traditionally eaten by Christians.
We asked readers of the Hexham Courant on social media where the best places are in the district to purchase the best fish and chips.
