Herman: Once again, state lawmakers think they know what's best for Austin. This time: Homelessness.
Once again, because we are the luckiest people on the face of the Earth, we bumbling mortals of Austin might benefit from the superhuman wisdom of state lawmakers from elsewhere.
What would we do without them? Maybe forget to chew our food or put on sweaters when it's chilly.
But this time, these interlopers are interloping as Austinites will be heading to the polls to take a shot at deciding this issue all by ourselves.
The House State Affairs Committee, opting to once again have the state meddle in a city affair, voted Thursday in favor of House Bill 1925 by Rep. Giovanni Capriglione, R-Southlake, who wants to bar cities from allowing camping on public property. The 8-3 vote routes the bill to the full House. No date has been set for its consideration.
