Herman: Hey gov, would you OK Texas secession referendum bill?
Because you know why, the current regular session of the Texas Legislature might process and pass less legislation than a regular session regularly does.
So here’s an idea. Instead of waiting until after laws reach his desk, maybe Gov. Greg Abbott could save some precious legislating time by announcing in advance what he’d veto.
Sure, Abbott, like all governors, uses veto threats, often private, to impact how legislation is crafted along the way. Nothing wrong with that. Lots of bills have wiggle room, often negotiated with the input of a governor with a veto pen.
