“This is it in regards to Laurel Park and Hendersonville,” said Aaron Troutman, an election specialist at the Henderson County Board of Elections.
Henderson County Republican Party Chairwoman Chelsea Walsh filed to run for Hendersonville’s City Council on Friday shortly before the filing period ended.
Walsh’s position with the county’s Republican party prompted a call to the state’s board of elections to make sure her candidacy was legal, Troutman said.
She was allowed to file for the council seat after state election officials assured local officials that it is legal for her to run. But Walsh must step aside and allow someone else in the party to appoint chief judges to polling sites during the election.
