GLADSTONE, Ill. — The Henderson County, Illinois, Public Health Department has canceled its April 21 Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine clinic amid concerns over the vaccine's safety.
The cancellation came on the heels of recommendations from the Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control that the U.S. pause administration of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine after six women between the ages of 18 and 48 experienced blood clots and low platelet counts after receiving the single-dose vaccination.
"We will not be hosting (the vaccine clinic) as scheduled due to there being recommended pause by federal health authorities to not use it until more research has been done into the issues that have presented in six women ages 18 to 48 who have had blood clotting and problems with low blood platelet counts," Henderson County Public Health Emergency Response Coordinator Sharon Graham told The Hawk Eye Tuesday.
