IYO, Ehime -- It has been a year and a half since the "heart lock fence" -- a fence at an expressway service area in this western Japanese city where thousands of couples attached locks as symbols of their undying love -- was taken down. But all those locks weren't simply tossed out. Some 7,000 of them were melted down and recast as two commemorative plaques, which were officially unveiled on Dec. 19.
