ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Local hospitals are on alert with COVID-19 cases trending upward in Buffalo and Rochester. Many are wondering, when will numbers peak in Ithaca? And will healthcare systems be ready?
“As far as preparations go, there’s really two components. One are, being sure you have the rooms and beds and then you need the staffing to take care of people in those locations,” said Dr. Doug Macqueen of Cayuga Medical.
Dr. Doug MacQueen says Cayuga Medical’s been crafting its surge plan since the spring. It includes having twice as many beds available, putting some in rooms which were unused before.
