EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Despite its proximity to the busiest roadway in Evansville, the Healing Garden unveiled Thursday evening is a place of profound quiet.
A stand of trees and bushes seem to almost envelop the entry of the sanctum at the Southwestern Indiana Master Gardener Association, providing a natural isolation from the noise and relative chaos of the nearby Lloyd Expressway.
The garden – one of three planned – is a collaborative effort by several community groups, from local advocacy organizations to law enforcement and prosecutors. The official dedication ceremony — with a ceremonial opening courtesy of Mayor Lloyd Winnecke — coincided with National Crime Victims' Rights Week, which is April 18-24 this year.
