AVAILABLE. EMILY? EMILY: GOVERNOR KIM REYNOLDS CALLS THE JOHNSON AND JOHNSON PAUSE A SURPRISING SETBACK. ESPECIALLY SINCE STATES WEREN’T WARNED IN ADVANCE. NOW PHARMACIES WILL INSTEAD RECEIVE MORE PFIZER AND MODERNA TO MAKE UP FOR THE LOSS IN JOHNSON AND JOHNSO INSIDE THE ALL CARE HEALTH CENTER IN COUNCIL BLUFFS, 150 DOSES OF THE JOHNSON AND JOHNSON VACCINE SIT IN THE FRIDGE. PHARMACIST LAUREN BARNETT HAS NO IDEA WHEN, OR EVEN IF, THEY’LL BE ABLE TO USE THEM. >> AND THERE ARE 10 MULTI-DOSE VIALS, EACH VIAL CONTAINS 5 DOSES. SO EACH BOX IS 50 DOSES. EMILY: WHEN NEWS OF THE J&J PAUSE CAME OUT TUESDAY BARNETT SAYS CALLED POTTAWATTAMIE COUNTY HEALTH, HOPING FOR A SUBSTITUTE. >> THEY FOUND SOME MODERNA DOSES FOR US AND GOT THOSE TO US QUICKLY, BECAUSE WE ALREADY HAD PATIENTS SCHEDULED YESTERDAY. EMILY: BARNETT SAYS THEY’RE ALSO EXPECTING MORE MODERNA DOSES FROM THE FEDS. >> SO WE SHOULDN’T HAVE A ISSUES AS FAR AS NOT BEING ABLE TO GET VACCINES TO PATIENTS. WE SHOULD STILL BE ABLE TO MEET ALL OF OUR NEEDS. EMILY: IOWA GOVERNOR KIM REYNOLDS SAYS THE IMMEDIATE IMPACT OF THE PAUSE IS MANAGEABLE. SHE SAYS IT SHOULD NOT AFFECT THE OVERALL SUPPLY. GOV. REYNOLDS: FORTUNATELY, ADDITIONAL DOSES OF PFIZER AND MODERNA WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR NATIONWIDE DISTRIBUTION NEXT WEEK AND WE’VE BEEN RECEIVING AN AMPLE SUPPLY OF BOTH HERE IN IOWA. EMILY: THE GOVERNOR RECEIVED HER DOSE OF THE JOHNSON AND JOHNSON VACCINE MARCH 3RD. SHE SAYS SHE HAD A HEADACHE AND SOME FATIGUE. BUT WAS BACK TO FEELING NORMAL 24 HOURS LATER. GOV. REYNOLDS: I WOULD DO IT AGAIN. VACCINATION IS THE BEST DEFENSE AGAINST THE VIRUS AND AS YOU’VE HEARD, THE REWARD FAR OUTWEIGHS THE RISK. EMILY: REYNOLDS SAYS THE STATE WAS ALREADY PLANNING FOR A MINIMAL SUPPLY OF JOHNSON AND JOHNSON DUE TO A SLOWDOWN IN MANUFACTURING. THAT’S WHY SHE’S NOT TOO CONCERNED ABOUT THE IMPACT THESE NEXT FEW WEEKS. STILL, SHE’S ASKING IOWANS FOR PATIENCE AS PHARMACIES ADAPT TO THE CHANGE. EMILY TENCER, KETV NEWSWAT
