“Our lives are the choices we make and the chances we take,” Phyllis Severson Anderson, 90, told me.
Growing up on a farm near Preston the oldest of five children, she learned responsibility. Although money was scarce, the family never wanted for anything. Her parents, both from large families, worked hard.
For eight years, Phyllis attended the one-room country schoolhouse a half-mile from her home. One teacher taught all subjects for eight grades. She remembers her younger brother being the only student in his grade.
