HCPS says farewell to 28-year 'educator without fear' Jan King
“Most of us just want to be Jan King when we grow up," said Henderson County Public Schools Superintendent John Bryant.
King, 51, who most recently served as assistant superintendent for instructional services, retired from HCPS Friday after 28 years of service.
Another longtime school district employee, Wendy Frye, will take over King's position today.
Colleagues – some of them also former students – described King as selfless, caring, personable, cheerful, humble, supportive, kind, an inspiration and a role model. They said she's also been a "steady hand" and wise leader throughout the district's navigation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
