Hattiesburg businesses consider mask policies as COVID cases surge

Christen Raanes, owner of The Little Wine Shoppe in midtown, said masks are currently optional for customers.
"We will continue to follow the state and local ordinances regarding mask usage but are not hesitant to mandate mask usage if we feel that the officials are too slow to take action in the midst of climbing numbers," Raanes said.
The seven-day average for Mississippi COVID-19 cases as reported by the Mississippi State Department of Health was 221 on July 1, 476 on July 14 and 738 on July 19, the latest figure available.
"New infection numbers are among the highest since this began," Hattiesburg Mayor Toby Barker said in a Friday social media post.
