Harvey was born on August 4, 1944 in Tama, IA the son of Jon H. and Amanda M. (Smith) See. He
attended the Tama Community Schools. Harvey started working in the grocery business early in his
life. He started working at Smitty’s Grocery in Marshalltown, IA. His work ethic was noticed, and he
quickly became a store Assistant Manager. In 1965, he married Mary Sue Sheda, together they had two
sons, Anthony and Terry. They were later divorced.
He joined the United States Army on May 26, 1970 and served with honor during the Vietnam War.
