Born on this day in 1939, Ian Hunter Patterson, British singer-songwriter and musician who is best known as the lead singer of Mott the Hoople, turns 82. He also worked in collaboration with Mick Ronson, David Bowie's sideman and arranger from The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars period. His best-known solo songs are "Once Bitten, Twice Shy", later covered by Great White.
