The European Union is considering endorsing a "humanitarian pause" in the conflict between Israel and Hamas to allow more aid to reach Palestinian civilians in Gaza. EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell expressed support for the proposal, which was also backed by several EU member governments. However, there were reservations from some member states, reflecting long-standing differences within the EU over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Some ministers raised concerns about Hamas' continued attacks on Israel and questioned how a ceasefire could be established with the group in control in Gaza.
