John Telford Halldorson passed away on Sunday July 7, 2013 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre with his daughter, Deb by his side. John Telford Halldorson was born February 14, 1941 on a farm near Kamsack, SK to Harry and Anne (nee Chernoff) Halldorson. John grew up on the family farm and attended school at The Prairie Queen School in Kamsack. After completing Grade 8 he worked many odd jobs as a labourer. He then gained employment with some seasonal work for the Department of National Resources (DNR). John attended school in Moose Jaw and Saskatoon where he achieved his Journeyman's Mechanic Certificate. Then from 1965 to 1968 he worked for International Harvester in Regina, and in 1968 he moved to Yorkton to work for the Department of Highways until he retired in 1996. John was united in Holy Matrimony to Florence (nee Barisoff) on October 9, 1965 in Kamsack. During their 17 years of marriage they were blessed with two children; a son Douglas, and three years later a daughter, Deborah. John had a number of favourite pastimes, he would go downtown daily to the bus depot or wherever for coffee. It didn't matter where he would go, but he would always know just about everyone wherever he went. He enjoyed auction sales as well, whether it was a farm sale or antique sale he would go mostly to "kibitz" with everyone. John was always a morning person and would be up at the crack of dawn or before dawn, making coffee and you could always find him tinkering in the garage building one thing or another. From a young age, John enjoyed hunting which he did all his life. Until a few years ago John had property by Reserve, SK where he would go hunting and spend time enjoying the wilderness. He would get his puppies (Tracker and Tiny) and cruise around with them in his "Argo" or quad, this is where he felt most at home. Being a mechanic he was always more than willing to lend a hand and never turned away a friend in need, no matter what time of day it was. John Telford was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Anne (nee Chernoff) Halldorson. John leaves to mourn and cherish his memory; his son, Doug of Red Deer, his daughter Deb (Cam) Koch of Yorkton, his grandchildren, Amy Halldorson of Red Deer and Jillyn Halldorson of Red Deer. He also leaves his long-time friend and companion, Pam Wiley and her son, James Wiley; his sister, Marge (Vern) Galye of Kamsack; his brother, Gary Halldorson of Regina and his children, Derek of Regina and Shauna of Canmore; his niece, Sheri (Steve) Nikiforoff and their children Kiera and Keenan. He also leaves his grand-dogs, Foxx and Lucky along with countless extended relatives and friends. A celebration of life service for family and friends of John Halldorson was held on Friday July 12, 2013 from St. Andrew's United Church with Reverend Jen Dresser officiating.
