HACKENSACK — David Sims, the deputy mayor who was dumped from Mayor John Labrosse's council slate in February, is heading his own ticket of council hopefuls in the city's upcoming municipal race, with help from former Mayor Jack Zisa.
Sims, first elected to the council in 2013, filed this week to get on the ballot for May 11, when all five council seats are up for grabs. The team — Carlos Merina, Fred Miller, Venus Nelson and Modesto Romero — has dubbed itself the "Coalition for Clean Government.”
“I am proud to lead a slate of candidates who are committed to making Hackensack a wonderful place to live for people of all backgrounds,” Sims said in a statement. “We envision a city where families, singles, seniors and millennials across all racial and ethnic lines can thrive in a welcoming environment in a safe and affordable community.”
