Long Island researchers: National surge in gun deaths among young

Gun violence was the leading cause of death nationwide among people under the age of 19 in 2020, according to research by New Hyde Park-based Northwell Health and the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, which also found that firearm deaths among children and adolescents surged more than 40% between 2018 and 2021.
