A backcountry guide has died days after he was attacked by a grizzly bear just outside of Yellowstone National Park in Montana.
According to officials, Carl Mock was likely defending a moose carcass while fishing in a forested area along the Madison River in West Yellowstone last Thursday. Mock had bear spray on him at the time of the attack but are not sure if he had been able to use it.
The moose carcass was found about 50 yards from where Mock was attacked, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks spokesperson Morgan Jacobsen said.
