SAN DIEGO —
Various community groups united against the oppression of Palestinians, Colombians, Black Americans and others in the U.S. and beyond gathered for a rally in San Diego Sunday.
The event began as a caravan in Los Angeles and ended at the northern edge of Balboa Park. It drew about 100 people.
“We really came together because we saw our struggles tied by state violence and U.S. imperialism (and) colonialism that our communities are facing,” said Jeanine Erikat of the Palestinian Youth Movement San Diego.
She and others, from the Colombian and Filipino communities, spoke out against injustices citizens in their homelands face, from violence against Palestinians by Israeli forces to police violence against anti-government protesters in Colombia. The protests have been against a now-withdrawn tax measure, police violence and privatization of the health care system.
