A half-dozen Wilmington groups have issued a call for local leaders to condemn what the groups called "the attempted coup of Jan. 6." That was the day last week when right-wing mobs stormed the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C., in an attempt to disrupt Congress from confirming the victory of Joe Biden in the presidential election.
In a news release issued Monday, six groups -- New Hanover for All, Sunrise Wilmington, Equality in New Hanover County Public Schools, New Hanover Schools United for Students, Women Organizing for Wilmington and Working Films -- called on "the city of Wilmington government, New Hanover County government, the New Hanover County Sheriff’s (Office), the Wilmington Police Department and Congressional representatives (to) issue a statement of their stance regarding the attack on our nation’s capital on Jan. 6."
