Throughout the past two weeks, Fox News has been hammering President Joe Biden over increased grocery prices during his administration. But the most recent Consumer Price Index report shows that grocery inflation was flat last month and has increased just 1% over the past year. The U.S. Department of Agriculture explained that food prices began increasing in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the food price inflation got worse in 2022 in part due to an avian flu outbreak and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. But wage growth has also outpaced overall inflation every month since May 2023, and specifically grocery inflation since July 2023, a factor which Fox personalities failed to mention while complaining about grocery prices. And according to the USDA, "food prices are expected to continue to decelerate in 2024."
