Carreno Busta earns straight-sets win against Nishikori
Grigor Dimitrov made a strong start to his Australian Open campaign on Monday with a 6-4, 6-2, 7-6(5) victory against 2018 runner-up Marin Cilic.
The 2017 semi-finalist landed 19 aces and won 83 per cent of first-serve points (52/63) to advance to the second round in Melbourne for the 10th time in 11 appearances. Dimitrov improved to 25-10 at the Australian Open, his most successful Grand Slam in terms of matches won.
When the draw was made, Dimitrov and Cilic’s clash immediately stood out. A meeting between former World No. 3 players, who had both made it to the latter stages of the tournament in recent years.
