Fourteen months ago, COVID-19 shut down the Greenville Theatre for the first time since World War II. It also shut down the theater’s long-time directors, Suzanne and Allen McCalla, for the first time in four decades.
“We closed a year ago in March. ‘A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder’ ran for two weeks, and the rest of the season got shelved,” says Suzanne McCalla, Producing Director at Greenville Theatre since 1993.
Meanwhile, the board of directors had been interviewing candidates to succeed her and her husband, Allen, the theater’s Executive Artistic Director. In 2018, the couple gave notice – two years’ notice – that they were ready to leave, or at least step back.
