Among them is Tom Kay, executive director of Alachua Conservation Trust.
“What is pretty fascinating is that it is just in incredible shape. The family has done an unbelievable job of managing it to keep the grasslands and the long-leaf (pine) intact,” Kay said. “It’s made it a really unique spot. There are more than 240 different native plants out there — highly unusual. It’s been in the same family for 70 years.”
The family referenced by Kay are the descendants of the late J.Y. Wilson, a former state legislator, alumni president of the University of Florida, passionate quail hunter and rancher.
