Eligible Des Plaines residents can apply for grants of up to $24,000 for home repairs through a federal program, officials announced Wednesday.
The funds can be used on projects such as roofing, electrical, plumbing, heating, door installation and window installation.
Homeowners also can receive grants of up to $8,000 to address accessibility improvements and minor repairs.
Applicants must meet low-to-moderate income criteria and other requirements.
The programs are managed by the North West Housing Partnership and leverage federal grant dollars from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development's Community Development Block Grant Program.
