Domingo Tenchilt Perez tried signing up to get the COVID-19 vaccine, but he couldn't get the state website to load using his spotty internet connection.
On Saturday, he made the trip to Grand Canyon University, where Marcus Castle, the university’s emergency preparedness manager, signed him up in minutes.
“I’m so relieved,” Perez said in Spanish. He disinfects rooms in health care facilities.
Navigating the online system to get an appointment can be daunting if you’re not technically savvy, Castle said, and impossible if you don’t have a computer.
It’s also difficult for people who use public transportation since most vaccine sites are drive-thrus. At GCU, people can walk in for appointments.
