When Graham Arena opened in December 1968, it quickly became the wintertime home of local youth and high school hockey players.
But in the early 1980s, two games with major international implications took place at Graham.
On Jan. 5, 1980, the U.S. Olympic team — later known as the “Miracle on Ice” team — faced off with a visiting team from the Soviet Union. Two years later, Canada and Czechoslovakia met at Graham Arena to decide the world junior championship.
